This article discusses the crucial role of community participation in the legislative drafting process in Indonesia as a democratic constitutional state. It highlights the constitutional and legal basis for public involvement in law-making, emphasizing that participation ensures the laws reflect the needs and aspirations of the people. The research employs a literature review and a quantitative survey of 52 respondents from the general public to analyze the urgency, forms, and realities of public participation. The results show that meaningful participation is seen as vital by most respondents for achieving good governance principles, justice, and laws that are beneficial and applicable to society. Despite legal mandates requiring openness and public input, challenges persist, including limited transparency, inadequate access to information, and insufficient consideration of public opinions by legislators. The article concludes that strengthening meaningful community participation is essential for the enactment of legitimate and effective legislation in Indonesia.
